Developments in Submerged Floating Tunnels

Synopsis
Although a large number of projects of various kinds are under execution all overthe country, submerged floating tunnels (SFT) have not yet been constructed which are seen asone of the most promising structures for strait crossings. This paper presents the outline onSFT up to the present day. First, the interesting features of SFT are described. Second, thedevelopments of SFT in Italy, Spain and Norway are briefly discussed. Third, some backgroundand imformation on SFT carried out by the Society of Submerged Floating Tunnel Technology Re-search in Hokkaido are given to some extent, including case examples.
