State-of-the-Art Report on Fracture Mechanics Applied to Reinforced Concrete Structures
By Hirozo Mihashi

Concrete Journal, Vol.34, No.5,pp.5`15, May 1996

Synopsis
Fracture mechanics of concrete has been developed as a scientific tool to deal with cracking behavior in concrete. This approach is especially useful to analyze nonlinearbehavior of concrete structures which is dominated by cracking in a localized zone or a limited number of cracks, such as shear failure of reinforced concrete beams and columns. This contribution reviews recent developments and trends of fracture mechanics of concrete especially applied to reinforced concrete structures.
Keywords:
fracture mechanics, fracture energy, tension softening, localization, size effect, tension stiffening, cracking
