Synopsis
Japan Iron and Steel Federation has been carrying out a series of study to utilize electric arc furnace oxidizing slag, which is produced as a by-product from steel-making process, as concrete aggregate. The possibility of utilization of slag has been recognized, because satisfactory results were obtained in the physical and chemical tests for the evaluation of aggregate. In order to take the advantages of characteristics of electric arc furnace oxidizing slag with high density and high hardness, actual size wave dissipating concrete blocks were made for strength and durability tests. The possibility to use it as heavy weight aggregate for heavy weight concrete has also been confirmed.
