Synopsis
This paper describes the state of the art concerning materials and welded joints in reinforcing steel bar. In comparison with other joints, the properties and the quality of welded joint can be obtained through the optimum welding procedure with related material, due to the thermal and forming process of welding. Introducing material/welding standards, classification and characteristics of welded joints in other countries, the authors emphersize the necessity of establishing own standards concerning weldable material, welding procedure and welder. Then the recent development of welding method, such as flash welding, is also introduced for high and ultra-high strength materials.
