Synopsis
From the observation during laboratory and field investigations on concrete specimens, the following issues are seemed to be considered to improve the durability of concrete structures : (1)How to remove the gaps from the steel-concrete interfaces? (2)Is it possible to defined the chloride threshold value with the presence of interfacial gaps at the steel-concrete interfaces? (3)Is it possible to limit the rate of corrosion by limiting the crack width? and (4)As the micro-cracking in concrete causes to accelerate the rate of deterioration, therefore, is it possible to recommend the use of plain bar for structures, where the bonding requirements are not so significant?
Keywords:
durability, chloride threshold values, corrosion, crack widths, steel-concrete interface.
