Synopsis
This paper outlines the results of the structural investigations conducted on the 2001. 9.11 building structures collapse due to the collision hijicked airplane in U.S.A. The following three aspects are presented
1. Outline of these events, 2. Main results on the structural investigation into the partial collapse of the Pentagon (Headquarter building of U.S. Department of Defense), 3. Main results on the structural investigation into the overall collapse of WTC 1 and WTC 2 (North and South towers on World Trade Center Complex). Finally, some findings od these investigations are introduced regarding resistance capability of reinforced concrete structures and steel structures under these impact, blast and thermal stresses.
The contents of the above 2 and 3 are mainly based on the publications of ASCE and NIST respectively.
