Deterioration of ASR-affected Foundation Structures on Noto Expressway and Its Countermeasures

Synopsis
After the Noto peninsula eathquake in March 2007, the strengthening work for bridges is now actively carrying out on the Noto expressway. By the survey on the footing of bride piers under the ground, a serious deterioration associated with the fracture of steel bars due to the alkali-silica reaction (ASR) was detected in several numbers of bridges. So, both the mechanical property of concrete and the degree of fracture of steel bars were examined for the purpose of strengthening design work for them. Case studies on the diagnosis and strengthening method for ASR-affected footings are introduced.
