Synopsis
Rapid chemical analysis of silica fume is expected by introducing the X-ray fluorescence analysis. When the glass heads used in the X-ray fluorescence method of cement are applied to X-ray fluorescence analysis of silica fume, it is pointed out that the effect of volatile components could be included in test results. In this study, X-ray fluorescence analysis of silica fume using pressing forming sample was studied experimentally in order to obtain some basic data about the sample preparation method, which is one of the most important problems, toward the introduction of X-ray fluorescence analysis method to chemical analysis of silica fume. As a result, X-ray fluorescence analysis of silica fume was found to be applicable to chemical analysis by using samples prepared by pressure forming under the suitable sample preparation conditions, without influences of volatile components which are problems in the glass beads sample.
