Synopsis
In order to build a sustainable society, it is important that we properly evaluate the condition and residual performance of existing structures, and that we prolong their service lives through repair and strengthening. The "Guidelines for Performance Assessment of Existing Concrete Structures" published in November 2014 cover general requirements and methods and procedures for the performance assessment of existing concrete structures. In addition to preliminary performance assessment, they include two levels of detailed performance assessment. Besides document search and visual inspection, detailed investigation of deterioration and damage, prediction of material properties, and calculation of residual performance using detailed numerical analysis are described as specific methods for use.
