By Technical Committee on Functions and Techniques for Contrcllling of Air Voids in Concrete

Concrete Journal, Vol.53, No.11, Nov. 2015

Synopsis
This paper presents part of the interim report of the Technical Committee on Functions and Techniques for Controlling of Air Voids in Concrete, which conducts activities for a comprehensive survey of the functions and effects of air voids in concrete, and techniques for the control and management of air voids, through both a survey of the existing literature and experimental study. This paper provides in particular an organized survey of the current state of knowledge regarding the effect of concrete component rnaterials and concreting methods on the air-void system of fresh concrete and hardened concrete. Further, it presents the findings of an experimental study on the effects of transportation and vibration compaction on the air content of fresh concrete.
Keywords:
air-void system, air content, workability, frost resistance, air entraining agent, shrinkage reducing agent, transportation and vibrating compaction
