Synopsis
The Technical Committee on Performance Based Design and Maintenance Scenario with ASK Control investigated techniques for predicting the occurrence of ASK and ASR-related expansion behavior with the aim to develop a coordinated design and maintenance scenario with alkali-silica reaction (ASK) control according to the importance of each structure and its performance requirements. The Committee investigated also through comparative analysis different analysis techniques used for performance assessment of ASR degraded structures, identifying prospects for performance assessment based on the prediction of expansion Along with the technologies required for ASR controlling design, the Committee described a scenario that uses monitoring as an example of maintenance that requires a coordinated approach. This paper summarizes the approach to a design and maintenance scenario that considers the risk of ASK occurrence through the combination of the above elemental technologies.
