State-of-the-Art on Strengthening and Repair Methods of Historical Buildings

Synopsis
It is very important for mankind to preserve and utilize historical buildings as valuable cultural inheritances. Recently the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Construction of Japan are promoting the preservation of brick, stone and reinforced concrete constructions built in the modern ages. This paper describes the state-of-the-art on strengthening and repair methods of historical buildings constructed of brick, stone or reinforced concrete. An example of the flow of diagnostics and various strengthening and repair methods of these buildings are introduced.
