The Present State of Tunnel Technique for the Second Tomei and Expressway

Synopsis
The cross section aria of the large tunnel on the New Tomei-Meishin Expressway is approximately 190 square meters as well as flatten arch shape (ratio of flatten:0.65).There are no road tunnels with such large cross section except these bases of petrol stocks or under ground power plants in Japan.Prior to large scale project which will be start onthe New Tomei-Meishin Expressway,three demonstration fields have been launched by Japan Highway Public Corporation in order to prove various unknoun problems which are to establish most reasonable tunnel cross section,to find the problems of temporary steel ribs on tunnel,TBM method and new material (high strength concrete,high strength metal support,long length cable bolt and so on) as well as to examine saving labor on the tunnel project.I would like to introduce contents of the large tunnel experimental projects on this report.
