Aggregates for concrete - Standardization in ISO/EN and the differences in test methods between the domestic and international standards

Synopsis
The deliberation was commenced after the deregulation promotion plan was determined upon the cabinet decision in 1995. The revision of JIS on testing methods of concrete has been done for three years from 1995 to 1997. As for the testing methods of aggregate for concrete, six standards, namely JIS A 1102, 1104, 1109, 1110, 1134 and 1135, were revised to be consistent with international standards. This paper describes the comparison of JIS with ISO standards on testing methods of aggregate for concrete and the major changes in the revised JIS in June 1999. Additionally, an overview of the current European Standards of aggregates for concrete which are based on ISO drafts of prEN 12620, EN 932, 933, 1097, 1367, 1744 is also described.
