Synopsis
Secondary lining cocnrete in tunnel structures have been recognized to involve problems in which several examples of concrete spalling were reported in tunnel structures. These problems were considered to arise due to initial cracking in lining concrete, which was strictly inspected at construction completion these days. Although effective technical suggestion has not reported to prevent initial cracking in lining concrete in literature, a new technical guideline is proposed by lining concrete research working group in Geo-Front committee. This proposal was based on broad field investigation for actual tunnel structures (1418 samples) in two years from 2002. Statistical investigation of these field data showed source of initial cracking occurring. This investigation finally led optimized concrete mix proportion and construction method for lining concrete structures.
