Synopsis
Wind turbine facilities have attracted considerable attentions as a renewable energy source. The sites suitable for constructing wind turbines are predicted to change from land areas to sea areas. This paper shows the outline of offshore wind turbine and required properties as supporting structures, based on the preceding examples in European countries. The problems for applying the concrete to offshore wind turbine structures are extracted and the ideas to solve them are presented. Since the geometric, meteorological and ocean conditions in the sea areas around Japan is much severer than those in Europe, the problems seen to be very difficult to be solved. The progress of concrete technology is highly expected to realize the offshore wind farm.
