Synopsis
A flat beam system was developed to materialize an open living space of residential buildings. The flat beam of this system has wider width than columns have and shorter depth than normal beams have, and the flat beams replace normal beams of rigid frame construction in this system. As results of experiments of scaled-down specimens and half-scale specimens, it is possible to design building structures by the flat beam system. This system is adopted in some projects. A concept of structural design, experimental researches, and one of the projects, in which the system was applied, were described in this report.
