Synopsis
As the need for high-speed construction of large concrete dams has arisen in recent years, ways to increase the efficiency and speed of concrete production, transportation, placing, and compacting are being studied. The transportation of large amounts of dam concrete including coarse aggregate of large maximum size without material segregation has been considered difficult to achieve through facility size expansion alone and a tough challenge. This report provides an overview of various concrete transportation equipment for dam construction, and focusing on the SP-TOM method, which enables the transportation of large amounts of concrete, it reports the results of a study of its mechanism for suppressing material segregation.
