Synopsis
In November 2019, the Architectural Institute of Japan's "Recommendations for Practice of Thermal Cracking Control of Massive Concrete in Buildings" were revised for the first time in 11 years. A characteristic of these Recommendations is that besides describing a performance-based design method to control thermal cracking, they present charts that enable the easy design of measures. This paper outlines the revisions made, focusing on the changes in performance design and the new charts that reflect these changes, including revisions of design values pertaining to the adiabatic temperature rise formula, autogenous shrinkage strain, fly ash cement Class B, and blast furnace cement Class B.
