Synopsis
Concrete with carbon-free fly ash packaged in water-dispersible paper was applied to a bridge super structure requiring measures to suppress the alkali-silica reaction and ensure early-age strength. The mix proportions satisfying the design conditions were determined by grasping the amount of water required for dissolving water-dispersible paper and estimating the minimum unit water content to ensure the performance of concrete in the fresh state. The strength characteristics and durability of concrete using water-dispersible paper were confirmed to be equal to or better than those of concrete prepared without using water-dispersible paper, and it was clearly established that the dissolution of the modest amount of water-dispersible paper used for packaging carbon-free fly ash in concrete does not cause problems.
