Synopsis
Japan Water Works Association has published the “Guidelines and Commentary on Earthquake-Resistant Construction Methods for Waterworks Facilities” in order to contribute to the improvement of the earthquake resistance of waterworks facilities, and is currently being used by many people involved in the water supply industry in Japan. For this revision, based on the knowledge and lessons learned from many earthquakes including the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake, the content has been enhanced based on the following four policies, (1) Definition of required performance, (2) introduction of crisis tolerance, (3) performance-based design, (4) selection of rational analysis methods. This paper outlines the standard concept of earthquake countermeasures (seismic countermeasures) for water supply facilities, the basic policy of earthquake-resistant design, and the seismic calculation and performance verification of pond-like concrete structures.
Keywords:
