Synopsis
In 2022, the Steering Committee on Durability and Maintenance of the Architectural Institute of Japan published the “Guidebook to Aid Service Life Planning of Buildings”. In addition to amplifying on the existing basic concepts and methods of durability design of buildings with the latest trends and information, this guidebook includes a record of the process of standardizing durability design. Specifically, it describes how to set and estimate various types of service life for buildings, how to set the reference service life, and the relationship with LCC and BIM. It concludes with a discussion of maintenance standards for buildings and how to utilize maintenance technology and information for durability design. It is hoped that this guidebook will be utilized and contribute to the promotion of durability design of buildings.
