Synopsis
As part of its 30th anniversary commemorative project, the JCI Kinki Chapter conducted an investigation of Hyakusekisai, the home office of Sakuro TANABE, who is renowned for the construction of the Lake Biwa Canal. The investigation revealed Hyakusekisai to be a wooden structure with wire-lath concrete walls that is of significant historical value. Following the preceding paper on the historical significance of Hyakusekisai, this paper presents the results of a more detailed investigation. Specifically, it reports on the component analysis of concrete, reinforcing bars, and wire lath based on samples collected from the wire-lath concrete walls. Further, the study employed infrared thermography and 3D point cloud surveying technologies to examine the exterior of the building and its structural components.
