Continuous Development of Design, Manufacturing and Construction Focusing on the Strengths of 3D Concrete Printing

Synopsis
Construction work using 3D printing with cementitious materials is rapidly increasing around the world. In Japan as well, a draft technical guideline has been published, and the social implementation of this type of construction is anticipated. This paper outlines the current status of the domestic application of this technology and recent national developments toward its social implementation. It also presents the development background and R&D initiatives of the authors’ company, Taisei Corporation, and reports on a recent application case involving off-site and on-site printing of columns and walls in a building project, covering the details of design, manufacturing, and construction, as well as the outcomes and challenges.
