- Synopsis
- Over the three-year period beginning in April 2022, the “Subcommittee on Performance-based Seismic Planning, Design and Diagnosis for Bridges” of the Earthquake Engineering Committee, Japan Society of Civil Engineers, brought together 48 members from industry, government, and academia to share and resolve academic research issues aimed at carrying out the seismic planning, design, and diagnosis of bridges in a rational and effective manner, exchanged the latest research findings and technical information, and compiled its findings in March 2026. The subcommittee conducted its activities through three working groups: the Seismic Structural Planning WG, the Seismic Analysis Considering Uncertainty WG, and the Seismic Retrofit Design and Diagnosis for Existing Bridges WG. This paper presents an overview of the activity report and highlights, among its contents, a case study on the evaluation of residual performance based on experiments and analyses of RC columns subjected to multiple loading histories, a survey of the actual state of seismic retrofitting projects for existing bridges, and a compilation and review of seismic diagnosis methods for existing bridges.
