Synopsis
Electric arc furnace oxidizing slag, which is generated as a byproduct during electric arc furnace steelmaking, is expected to be effectively used as an aggregate for concrete from the perspectives of resource recycling and as a substitute for natural aggregates. In particular, 5-0.3mm electric arc furnace oxidizing slag fine aggregate treated to produce spherical particles (hereinafter referred to as EFS5-0.3) has stable quality, as well as characteristics such as reducing the unit water content and the drying shrinkage of concrete. In 2024, Key Points in Production and Construction of Concrete Using Spherical Electric Arc Furnace Oxidizing Slag Fine Aggregate was prepared by a research group comprising manufacturers, readymixed concrete producers, and constructors (construction companies). Based on this publication, this paper organizes and explains the material properties of EFS5-0.3, mix design, and points to note in production and construction.
