Welcome to ConMat’09
On behalf of the ConMAt’09 committees, and our various institutions and corporate sponsors, it is a great pleasure for us to welcome you all to Nagoya, Japan. This conference, ConMat’09, is organized after the previous three conferences held in Ottawa, Canada (1997), San Jose, USA (2001) and Vancouver, Canada (2005).
The primary purpose of this conference is to bring experts in materials and structures on a common platform with the objectives of exchanging cross-disciplinary ideas and learning from recent advances in respective fields. At ConMat’09, we are particularly interested in bringing the interdisciplinary fields of materials and structures. From Aug. 24 till 26 , 2009, we will be listening to some 235 exciting presentations from more than 28 countries. These papers have been carefully chosen, and have all endured the strict scrutiny of international peer-review. In addition, the Local Organizing Committee has invited a number of leading experts to deliver talks on a wide range of topics of interest to you, especially the six invited speakers and six keynote speakers. The Local Organizing Committee has also organized two Technical Tours and an Accompanying Persons’ Tour during the conference. We do hope that ConMat’09 will be a stimulating and rewarding experience for all of you and that it foster personal friendships and promote international cooperation.
Finally, we would like to thank all our invited presenters, various members of our International Advisory Board, International Scientific Committee and Local Organizing Committee, and the many reviewers who generously donated their time to this worthwhile cause. Special thanks are also to be given to JCI and Kajima Foundation for financial supports, and Mr. Y. Nobuta, the Vice-Chief of the Local Organizing Committee. Without their support, advice and assistance, this conference would not have been possible.
Nagoya is the main industrial city located at the central part of Japan. We welcome you all and hope you will have a pleasant, productive and memorable stay here.
